Many things in life prevent us from moving forward, they hinder us from striving after our objectives, goals, and dreams.
It could be from feeling a lack of self-confidence, loss of a job, not feeling overly great, bored, or not in the mood to take any form of action.
These feelings distract us and steer us away from our aim and pushes us into a corner of despair, laziness, and inaction.
When you are sidetracked or preoccupied, perhaps troubled and agitated, there are ways you can increase your energy to get motivated and overcome laziness.
Here are 5 ways you can do just that:
1. Jump out of bed
Upon awakening, start your day with a boost of enthusiasm. Jump out of bed, raise your arms in the air and declare, “Today is my day, and I choose to enjoy it.”
Repeat that affirmation out loud (if possible) with as much emotional intensity as you can for 2 to 5 minutes while pacing (dancing) around your bedroom.
Once done, go wash your face and look into the mirror and give yourself the cheesiest Hollywood smile you could muster.
And as you step out of your home say that affirmation again for 2 more minutes (out loud or silently if you prefer), then go about your day.
2. Run errands
While you’re at it, since you’re up and about, you could visit friends or run some errands and use that time to mix with people, such as the cashier, and the sales assistant.
Getting out and about, out of home, and mixing with people, will not only get you moving and chatting, but it will also lift you from being down.
3. Pump up the volume
I am going to assume you have a Smartphone, and that you probably make use of it on your way to and from work, right?
Well, why not make use of it another way?
Use it to get you moving, use it to raise your energy level, and use it to put you in a happy, uplifted, and active mood.
Listen to your favourite music. Start a playlist and call it Feel Good Music.
As often as you can and for as long as you can pump up the volume and listen to your choice of energizing and uplifting music.
Listen to your Feel-Good Music as many times as you can throughout the day.
If you can’t dance, great, go ahead and melt your mental laziness by nodding your head or tapping your feet.
Music is well known for and is great for revving up some much-needed energy!
4. The power of images
Cut pictures or photographs of things and places that inspire you, that make you smile, that lift you up a few notches.
Place those images in places where you are more likely to see them wherever you are, wherever you go, and as often as you can during the day.
If the pictures are of the goals that move you to action from inaction, then even better.
Look at these images as often as you can, even if it’s for a brief 2 or 3 seconds throughout the day, for when you see them you are reminded of them as goals you want to achieve, and that moves you to action, or the very least they will inspire you to think about taking action, and before long you will find yourself doing things in the direction of the photographs you keep viewing.
5. Daily shot of optimism
Have you ever felt low, unmotivated, and too lazy to get off that couch, until a friend calls you and you bounce off the couch within seconds, pick up your car keys and drive to meet your friends with a huge smile on your face?
Within an instant, your feelings and behaviours changed. You were feeling low and lazy one second and the next you were as motivated as anything.
Why not use that realization to your benefit?
Make a list of the people you consider to be ‘motivators’.
The 2, 3, or maybe 4 people you can rely on to recognize the times when you are feeling lazy and to call you to shake you into action.
Surround yourself with people who motivate you.
Either have them call you during the day at set times, or you make a commitment to them and more importantly to yourself to call them when you are in that lazy zone.
Regardless of what you may think life is throwing at you, get out of that lazy habit and get into action.
When you fall into the laziness trap you are the one who will suffer the most.
Accept life’s challenges and use these strategies to overcome laziness.
